Pricing decisions are made without customer or market evidence.

The company does not know which attributes justify paying more, what the price ceiling of each segment is or how the competition moves.

Without that evidence, the sales pitch talks about technical features and price is set by reference to the closest competitor.

Common signals

  • Deals are lost and no one knows whether it was price or value.
  • The sales team asks for discounts to close.
  • Competitor prices are reviewed manually and late.
  • A new product is about to launch with no price reference.

Frequently asked questions about market and price research

What is a willingness to pay study?

It is quantitative research that estimates how much each segment is willing to pay for an offer and for each attribute. It uses methods such as conjoint, Van Westendorp or Gabor-Granger.

What is conjoint analysis?

It is a method that presents customers with combinations of attributes and prices. Based on their choices, it estimates the weight of each attribute and the monetary value assigned to it.

How does competitor price monitoring work?

Price Sonar automatically collects (scraping) the prices published in online stores, marketplaces and catalogs. Price Sentinel compares that data against defined rules and sends alerts when there are deviations.

What is voice of the customer used for in pricing?

To describe value in the customer's words. That language feeds the value proposition and the sales arguments that support the price.
